Capture the Flag

Who:         Any 7th or 8th grade student who turned in a flag project

When:       Wednesday, November 22.  2:50-5:00 p.m.

Where:      Larry Mills Park

 Students will be bussed to Larry Mills Park at 2:50.  An activity bus will pick up students at 4:45 to take them back to AEO and then home.  Parents can pick their children up at 4:45 at AEO if they prefer.

Students are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather.  We will be outside the whole time.

**The PTSA will be providing refreshments for the celebration after the Capture the Flag event. We are asking your help with donating 1-2 dozen cookies. Please send them in with your child or drop them off on Tuesday or Wednesday in the office the week of Thanksgiving.

If could please let PTSA know via email (oblockptsa@gmail.com )if you will be donating cookies, it would be appreciated. We would like to have enough for the students participating in this event.**

Oblock Cares Read-A-Thon
AEO students are raising money for local charities, including Make-a-Wish, Plum Food Pantry, and many other local worthy causes. 
Battle of the Books
Oblock's Battle of the Books wrapped up before Thanksgiving. Six teams of six students made it through all 5 rounds, 15 books, and 45 questions.  
Reach Out Food drive
In the beginning of November, the annual Thanksgiving turkey food drive took place at Oblock.  
On November 9th, 16 GATE students traveled to Duquesne University for the annual Calcu-Solve math competition.  
Veterans’ Day Observance
The Oblock Junior High Social Studies Department wanted to make sure that AEO students understood the significance of Veterans’ Day so they prepared several displays throughout the school and held an assembly during their social studies classes on November 10 where, Veterans, Ericka Moore and Andrew Festa spoke to the 7th and 8th grade students.  
Creative Convention
On October 30, two teams of GATE students from Oblock traveled to Springdale Junior-Senior High School to compete in the Creative Convention with GATE advisor, Mrs. Dinga 
Over twenty-five 7th and 8th grade boys learned football fundamentals this year under the guidance of head coach, Mr. Rich Bernardi, and assisted by Mr. Bill Depew, Mr. Vince Russo, and Mr. Kyle Cline 
Library News
Oblock is working hard on reading again this year as more incentives and programs challenge the students to read more than they ever have.   
History Bowl
Twelve GATE students traveled from AEO to the Heinz History Center on October 25th to participate in the History Bowl, an academic event designed to engage students in problem solving and creative thinking. 
Girls’ Basketball
The Oblock eighth grade girls’ basketball team is having a successful season so far! 
Word Master Competition
Ten GATE students from O’blcok Junior High attended the Word Master Competition at West Hempfield Middle School on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. 
Student Council
Student Council members, under the leadership of Mrs. Jenna Romanelli, are busy planning fun and charitable activities for Oblock students to participate in this year.
