The commencement of a new school year is a busy time in our Elementary Band program! Our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students are enrolling in the Pivik, Center, Holiday Park, Adlai Stevenson, and Regency Park Beginning Bands. Our beginning program offers students the opportunity to learn the following instruments: Flute, Oboe Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn and Percussion. As an outgrowth of a Band student's successful participation in the Beginning Band program and Spring Concert, they are promoted to Advanced Band.
Our Advanced Band program consists of Band students with at least one year of successful Beginning Band education. We further diversify our instrumentation to also include: Bass Clarinet, Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxophones, Baritone Horns, Tubas, and an occasional String Bass! The Music Literature features a wide spectrum of style and genres; we rock! Advanced Band students are also eligible to audition for Stage Band.
Remember, Band is an academic, not just an activity! The longer duration your child plays a musical instrument is directly and positively correlated to their other academic successes in school. Children who actively create music increase their PSSA scores. A recent Penn State Study showed that students who actively create music earn superior scores in the reading and math areas of the SAT's! Music makes you smarter!
Band serves as a wonderful business model for the present and coming world. We all give our individual efforts and must develop skills working together to produce our product. As a Band member, the individual builds respect and an interindependence for and with the entire group. You are always an individual, with individual triumphs and successes; and you are simultaneously part of a group greater than any single individual within the said group.
Any parents interested in their child's participation in our Elementary Band program may contact Mrs. Marion.
